Selection, specifications, wiring, maintenance, customization and ordering — everything buyers ask, answered.
A hydraulic power unit (also called a power pack) is a self-contained assembly that supplies pressurised hydraulic oil to a cylinder or actuator. It combines a motor, gear pump, oil reservoir and a manifold of cartridge valves in one compact unit.
Yes — the two terms are used interchangeably and refer to the same compact motor-pump-reservoir assembly.
A single-acting unit pressurises the cylinder to lift (power up) and relies on gravity or load to lower (gravity down), using one hose. A double-acting unit pressurises oil in both directions (power up / power down), using two hoses for controlled lowering.
Match the circuit to your cylinder. Standard dump trailers and simple lifts usually use single-acting; applications that need powered or controlled lowering (scissor lifts, tail lifts) use double-acting.
DC units (12 V / 24 V) run from a battery and suit mobile equipment such as trailers and trucks. AC units (110 V / 220 V / 380 V, 50/60 Hz) plug into mains power and suit fixed installations such as workshop lifts and tire changers.
Match your vehicle's electrical system — 12 V for light trucks, vans and trailers; 24 V for commercial and heavy-duty vehicles. For the same power, 24 V draws half the current of 12 V.
HCIC offers DC motors from 0.5 kW to 4.0 kW and AC motors from 0.75 kW to 3.0 kW. The right power depends on the load, required pressure and lifting speed — send us your cylinder size and cycle time and we will size it.
Gear pumps range from 0.18 to 8.0 cc/rev. Flow (L/min) equals displacement × motor speed; each model page lists its approximate flow. For sizing, tell us the cylinder volume and required cycle time.
The HC series covers system working pressures from 0 to 25 MPa (0–250 bar / 0–3625 PSI). Each model lists its P1/P2/P3 pressure ratings.
Flow depends on the pump displacement and motor speed. Each product page shows the approximate flow in L/min and GPM.
It is the gear pump displacement per revolution — the volume of oil moved per pump revolution. Higher displacement means more flow at the same speed.
A relief valve limits the maximum system pressure to protect the circuit. It is set to match your cylinder and load; every HCIC unit is pressure-tested at 3000 PSI (207 bar).
Two families: BKP0.5BO (0.18–2.0 cc/rev, G1/4 ports) and BKP1Q0 / BKP1Q2 (0.8–8.0 cc/rev, G3/8 ports).
DC motors are rated S2 (intermittent) and AC motors S1/S6. A long-duty DC motor is available for extended operation.
Yes. The solenoid valve coil can be specified independently (12 V / 24 V DC or 110 V / 220 V AC) from the motor voltage.
Wire the motor and solenoid through the pendant or remote control with a suitable relay and fuse. Wiring diagrams for single-acting and double-acting circuits are available on request.
Use a healthy deep-cycle battery and heavy-gauge cable (typically 2–4 AWG) with a correctly sized fuse and a clean ground. Undersized wiring is the most common cause of slow or failed lifting.
Yes, we can supply wiring diagrams for single-acting, double-acting and wireless-remote configurations.
Both are available. Choose horizontal where vertical clearance is limited, and vertical for a compact footprint; the reservoir must stay correctly oriented for the oil level.
ISO VG 32 or ISO VG 46 hydraulic oil in moderate climates; ISO VG 22 in cold conditions. Always follow the specification on the unit nameplate.
Fill the reservoir to the correct level, prime the pump and purge air from the hoses and cylinder before loading. Never run the pump dry — gear pumps can be damaged within seconds.
M14×1.5, M16×1.5, G1/4 and G1/8 ports are available to match your hoses and cylinder.
The usual causes are a lost prime, low or wrong fluid, a clogged suction screen, a relief valve stuck open or set too low, or a worn pump. On 12 V units also check battery voltage and ground.
Check that the solenoid valve is opening (listen for the click), that the valve spool is not stuck by contamination, and that there is no air in the system.
Noise is usually cavitation or aeration — air in the fluid, low oil level or a restricted suction line. It can also indicate a worn pump.
Overheating usually means the relief valve is set too low (constant bypass), the unit is running beyond its duty cycle, or the wrong oil viscosity is installed.
Leaks are typically worn seals, loose fittings or a damaged hose. Inspect the connections and replace worn seals.
Check the oil level regularly, keep the fluid clean, inspect hoses and fittings, and replace filters and seals on schedule.
With correct fluid and maintenance, a power unit lasts years of service. HCIC gear pumps are independently life-tested for 300,000 cycles.
